The facts have been pouring in, especially in the last few years – avoiding meat and dairy is the “single biggest way” to reduce your environmental impact. And that’s causing some guys to go vegan and vegetarian while at home. But whether you call it “male fragility,” (like Esquire did) or just chalk it up to societal pressure, guys can’t resist eating meat when they’re out with their friends, according to a new study.

Researchers out of the United Kingdom interviewed 20 guys about their diets and found that guys cave to pressure when they’re out with their buds.
“We found men who ate a vegetarian or vegan diet at home found it difficult to avoid eating meat when socializing with other men,” study author Emma Roe told the Daily Mail.
In one instance, a guy in his late twenties identified as a vegetarian, but when it came time for his Sunday game of soccer with the lads, he couldn’t resist the temptation of a bacon sandwich.
“We found that even men who don’t like meat, or have been asked by the doctor to eat less meat, still find it hard to choose the vegetarian option in public around other men,” Roe said.
Importance of Meat
You don’t have to give up meat. Reducing your meat consumption and going on a plant-based or flexitarian diet like Tom Brady does can still make an impact. But while this study is admittedly extremely small, it is weird that guys still find eating vegetarian food so awkward. It’s 2018, there shouldn’t be a problem if you don’t want to eat bacon.
That being said, if someone makes you a meal and the only thing is meat. I’m a big believer that if you turn it down you’re kind of a dick.
